Gnome3 in an even more beautiful edition

Here we have another version of the Fedora, more precisely the eighteenth. Let us remind ourselves, Fedora begins its life back in early 2003. As a free distribution that came out of the developers house RedHat team with the goal to achieve predominance in the field of free Linux distributions. Ten years later, they managed what they intended to and today Fedora is definitely one of the best distributions you can find. On one occasion Linus Torvalds himself, the creator of the Linux kernel proudly said that he uses Fedora because of its good support to the PowerPC processor architecture.

If you are a proud owner of an older Fedora generation, the process of upgrading is simple, but a little confusing. To the 17th version you use the command
Fedora 18
preupgrade

That automatically downloads the newest version of Fedora and installs it on the hard drive, while the upgrading from version 17 in the newest 18 version is done with the command

fedup

The reason for that change is, as they said in the developers team, to make the source code more beautiful and enable simpler upgrading that is done from the boot.

Unlike the upgrading, the installation is done with no problems. You need to download the ISO file from the official Fedora page that is on and save it on a CD or USB flash memory that you will start on your computer. It is your choice whether you are going to install it or use the so called live mode without installation. In the case that you want to install Fedora you need to make sure your computers meets these requirements: the processor speed needs to be minimum 400 MHz, 1 GB RAM memory and at least 10 GB hard drive size. Our recommendation is that after you have finished the installation you do the upgrade with the command

sudo yum -y upgrade

just to make sure that you have the latest version of kernel and all applications that come with Fedora 18.

After you have finished upgrading or fresh installation of Fedora, you will be greeted by the classic Gnome3 environment specific for Fedora that is not much different than the previous versions. The icon for access in applications has been moved to the left and looks like the icon for menu entrance in the OS Android 4.0. Also, simple effects of popping out windows have been added that greatly beautify the using of Fedora and bring it closer to the user. On the other hand, the applications that you get will be enough to start working on Fedora. Taking into account that Fedora is produced by the famous RedHat team there are no problems with support. Namely, the developers from Fedoras mother house are handling the support for Fedora 18 for the next 13 months. Accordingly, the support for the famous “hat” will be canceled in one year, and we don’t doubt that Fedora, if you give it a chance, will shine on your computer in full power, and will stay longer than that.
